Anne McGrath is a Hudson Valley-based writer, twice noted in the Best American Essays collection, and the recipient of fellowships from Vermont College of Fine Arts and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Her work has been featured in Creative Nonfiction, Fourth GenreRiver TeethRuminate, and other publications. Anne’s audio stories have aired on National Public Radio, the Brevity Podcast, and Petrichor Audio Magazine.

Anne offers editing and marketing services to writers. She was the former Literary Editor for Monkfish Book Publishing. As an active literary citizen she has read submissions for Narrative MagazineFourth GenreHunger Mountain, and The Maine Review. She has taught writing workshops in an assisted living facility and a homeless shelter and has performed readings and live storytelling on a variety of stages including The Mount (Edith Wharton’s former home in Massachusetts), the Noah Webster House in Connecticut, and the Bowery Poetry Club in lower Manhattan.

As a Death Doula, Anne affirms and supports the lives of people facing terminal illnesses and is a fierce advocate for her clients. She volunteers at Hudson Valley Hospice.

Before turning to writing Anne worked in NYC for 20 years as a community organizer advocating for the rights of homeless people. 

Anne holds an MS from Fordham University and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She completed the End-of-Life Doula Training through the International End-of-Life Doula Association. She lives in the Hudson Valley.
